Jesus Christ was a messiah, an incarnation of God who descended in this Earth to save mankind and establish a religion which is known as Christianity. Jesus was born ina stable, where shepherds, alerted by angels, came to visit him. It was believed that after twelve days of his birth—three Magi, or wise men, who had been guided by a star, arrived to see Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. While He was on the earth, Jesus taught us the way of happiness, find peace, and return to live with God. His gospel still applies today. Jesus, also called Jesus Christ, Jesus of Galilee, or Jesus of Nazareth, (born c. 6–4 BCE, Bethlehem—died c. 30 CE, Jerusalem). Although he was born in Bethlehem, according to Matthew and Luke, Jesus was a Galilean from Nazareth, a village near Sepphoris, one of the two major cities of Galilee (Tiberias was the other). He was born to Joseph and Mary sometime between 6 BCE. He was child from Holy Spirit born to mother Mary. Joseph is said to have been a carpenter and Jesus also became a carpenter.
He was baptized by the prophet John the Baptist and shortly thereafter became a preacher. The Gospels portray Jesus as a powerful teacher, who often taught through parables. Jesus Christ spent about three years travelling around the Middle East 2,000 years ago teaching people about God. He started preaching at the age of 30. He spoke in synagogues (Jewish places of worship), people’s homes and in the open air. He travelled with a favourite of his 12 close followers known as the disciples, but there were many others who always came along his path. Jesus’ teachings touched all areas of human life and experience. He taught often uneducated, rural people so he used examples which would make sense to them. When we read his life recorded in the Bible books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, there are often references to farming and fishing and common things, and He often used parables or stories to illustrate the point he was making.
One of the most event of teaching by Jesus is the Sermon on the Mount, which is told in the Bible books of Matthew and Luke. It is more like a manifesto of how to live a Christian life. Jesus was speaking on a hillside overlooking the Sea of Galilee, close to where he lived in the town of Capernaum. The sermon begins with the Beatitudes, a series of statements addressed to his disciples. Beatitude tells ways in which people are blessed, or find a deep peace and inner joy. The Beatitudes are more of his code of ethics or standards for anyone following him. The rest of the sermon is discussed on various topics. Jesus taught about avoiding anger, encouraging people and settle disputes quickly. In one of his famous statement, he calls on people to love their enemies and pray for those who persecute them. His teaching was focussed on teaching people about less greed for money.
Jesus know there were religious leaders who are against him. His advice on prayer said should be private and not loud. He ends by encouraging people to seek God and to build their lives on solid foundations – in other words, to put his words into practice. Jesus’ parables – The parables were stories not actual events. They were a memorable way to teach. Jesus mentioned about 40 parables. They are recorded in the Bible books of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Some famous parables are The Good Samaritan and The Prodigal Son.
Jesus in His lifetime established 30 miracles which were also not possible by human being. Some miracles performed by Jesus were he healed a blind man; cured leprosy, a man with paralysis and a woman with persistent bleeding. He also brought three people back to life after their deaths. He also calmed a storm, turned water into wine and walked across the surface of a lake. Jesus often used these miraculous events as moments to teach about God.
Jesus had already many enemies who did differ from their ideology and He knew that his life was coming to an end. In his final days before crucifixion, Jesus warned his followers about the times ahead. He foretold the destruction of Jerusalem (which happened about 40 years after he died). Jesus continued to teach the disciples and others after his resurrection too.
As Jesus travelled and preached, he had Roman rulers, who were against him, provoking people of rebellion. He challenged some Jewish leaders and they became enemies also. Jesus named hypocrisy where he saw and protested and this became the reason of his opposition who were against him.
He was taken before the Roman authorities, where Pontius Pilate ultimately charged Jesus with sedition and executed him via the Roman practice of crucifixion, being nailed to a cross. Jesus died on Friday just before the Sabbath so his body was quickly taken away and laid in a stone tomb. The resurrection of Jesus took place and he again appeared in front of his disciples. This was enough to prove that Jesus was the incarnation of God. Fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus, the disciples were together in Jerusalem for the Jewish spring harvest festival of Shavuot. There, with people gathered from many lands, the new community of Christ-followers experienced an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Five teaching of Jesus :
- Love God and your neighbor
Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:37–39). Replace hate with love, and anger with kindness, and feel closer to God and have peace in your life.
- Live the Golden Rule
Jesus taught the Golden Rule during His Sermon on the Mount: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them” (Matthew 7:12). In other words, treat others the way you want to be treated. As you do so, you will strengthen your relationships and be happier.
Have faith in Jesus Christ
In John 3:16 we read, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Having faith in Jesus Christ means believing in Him and His teachings. Doing so will bless you in this life and in the life to come.
Communicate sincerely with God
Jesus taught by example that we should pray to God, our Heavenly Father, often. God loves you. He stands ready to help you. Communicate with Him through prayer, express gratitude, and ask for things you need.
Freely forgive
While Jesus was on the earth, Peter asked Him, “Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?” Jesus responded, “I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21–22). When we freely offer forgiveness to others, we can invite more peace and forgiveness into our own lives.
The Old Testament
The Bible consists of two main sections. The first section, the Old Testament, tells of people who lived many years before Jesus’s birth. God gave them laws and procedures to prepare them for the coming of the Savior.
The New Testament
The New Testament begins with Jesus’s birth and continues with His ministry, death, and Resurrection. During His life, Jesus fulfilled the laws God had given in Old Testament times and taught a higher law based on love. He taught us how to find happiness by serving others, obeying God’s commandments, and leaving our mistakes behind.
