Durga Puja Art – Building aesthetic revolution
Durga Puja has made its place in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. First Asian festival to receive the prestigious recognition. The festival grandeur is around, what we are seeing are some creations that reveal that this festival has reached its height where it is a symbol of art festival, a festival to cherish life and its expression of our inner thoughts.
Counting innumerable theme artist who have already reached their fame, there are many new artist giving new forms to this festival. The four-day festival has now extended a bit with people and puja committees opening 2-3 days prior onset of the festival for people to view this grand art form. Though we are seeing new art forms of durga but the main mythology remains the same the divine mother remains the main center of attraction. It is all about Uma’s visit to his home for 4 days, the celebration initiated by Lord Rama known as “Akalbodhan” which is a prayer to demolish evil power. Theme artist Susanta Paul has created a unique installation art which depicts motion, names the theme “’Rwiti”. Artist Bimal Samanta has created “Antarshakti” or inner power, he has used glass pieces in various forms to create the mesmerizing form. Artist Sanatan Dinda’s artform depicting the art of Van Gog’s The Starry Night with a blend of our culture and form. Theme artist Sumanta Chakraborty and Swarup Dutta has mesmerised with their creation. Artist Pradip Das has innovated the art form using the glimpse of our very own City of Joy in the art form, creating a installation art. Idol artist Pintu Sikdar has been instrument in creating relevant Durga forms based on the theme. Artist Parimal Pal has worked on many unique concepts of forms of Durga. Artist Partha Dasgupta has been using rare art forms in his work, he feels that the process of work is important. Many fresh new art graduates have dedicated their intensive thought process in creating Durga Puja Art which has become an international stature now.
